It is still unsure when classes can start again. As soon as Government advice allows the venues to open again, our courses will start. I’ll keep you posted.
In the meantime if you are wanting to recap on some basic Samba I have produced a short video for some home dancing. Let me know and I’ll email you a link to the website page. I will also include some Tango so you may need to do some serious furniture moving!
When we do start classes we will still be following NHS advice, washing hands regularly and keeping a safe distance.
As our dance in the wonderful Prospect Room at Wollaton Hall had to be cancelled. I am looking to run it again next year, hopefully on Sunday April 25th.
In the meantime keep safe everyone and hope to see you dancing again soon.
Ng Magazines, where I usually advertise, have an interactive online magazine on their website you can find it here: https://ngmagazines.org.uk/
“Any kind of dancing is better than no dancing at all.” ~ Lynda Barr
Our Valentines’s Ball last Saturday was a lovely event. The City Ballroom is such a fabulous place to dance. It has a wonderful calm atmosphere, great views over the Market Square and a beautiful sprung floor. In such a place you can’t help but just enjoy dancing.
If you have a special event on the horizon, you could hold it in this Ballroom. After all, in theory it does belong to us, the citizens of Nottingham.
We raised £85 at the raffle which has been donated to My Sight Nottingham in memory of Mavrick Jnr Bailey, an inspiring Salsa teacher and fitness instructor. Thank you everyone.
I had a lot of fun at the Memory Café on January 16th. We danced most of the dances and I devised some steps for Samba and Tango while sitting, a version of a hand clapping game to Foxtrot music and of course the Hand Jive. You can find more information about the Memory Café here.
Our next dance is in the amazing Prospect Room at Wollaton Hall on Sunday April 26th. Tickets are know available and as we are limited to 40 tickets let me know if you wish to dance in this high-level Ballroom.
In preparation for the Tango & Samba course we are running a Tango Workshop at Mapperley on Sunday 23rd February. It is a good chance for you to get a head start on the next lessons.

Dancing is like dreaming with your feet. ~ Constanze
Not only is this the first Newsletter of the year, but of the decade. That’s a bit frightening.
With an extra week before the start of the new courses we’ve all had more time to recover from the seasonal excesses and illnesses and so there has been a good turnout for the classes. Also we’ve had excellent feedback from the Playhouse Workshops, which were sold out, and there are more planned for the summer too. The money raised goes towards funding their youth outreach programmes.
I have the first session of the year with the Memory Café at Middle Street Resource Centre in Beeston this month. These sessions are very different from my usual classes requiring dancing while seated! It is an enjoyable session though challenging, for me too. You can find more information about the Memory Café here.
The tickets for the Valentine’s Ball at the City Council House Ballroom on February 15th are now available. This is a fantastic Ballroom with a superb floor and if you’ve never danced socially before don’t be put off, it is the reason for all your lessons after all. It’s most enjoyable, good practice, and will improve your dancing. There is plenty of floor space and you don’t need any fancy moves, so let me know if you want to come along.
There is another chance to dance up in the amazing Prospect Room at Wollaton Hall on Sunday April 26th. Tickets available shortly. We are limited to 40 people attending so put your name down early.

‘Let us read and let us dance – two amusements that will never do any harm to the world’ ~ Voltaire
Well our 2019 courses have drawn to a close and so a big thank you to all who have supported us this year. We had a wonderful end to our Foxtrot & Cha Cha course. The socials were just that, lovely social occasions with plenty of dancing too. John & Sally Graham deserve a special thank you for not only letting us use All Hallows CE School’s Hall for the Mapperley Social, but providing refreshments too.
Next year promises to be an exciting time starting with a Waltz & Jive course beginning on January 8th at Chilwell and 9th at Mapperley,
Workshops at Nottingham Playhouse on Saturday 11th January with more planned through out the year,
A Valentine’s Ball at the City Council House Ballroom on February 15th,
and another chance to dance up in the amazing Prospect Room at Wollaton Hall on Sunday April 26th.
I hope you’ll be able to join us at a dance course or event in 2020. Details of classes and events are on the website here for Chilwell and here for Mapperley.
